Antioch School House
History:
The current schoolhouse at this location replaced the first much smaller school that was previously on the property. The new school was built in 1892 with 4 classrooms and an entrance on the south side of the building. Some time later, indoor plumbing was added with bathrooms in the basement and an addition on the west side. The school house was used as the lower grade school until it was outgrown and a new lower grade school was built in the 1930's. The old school was used for band and other additional classes until 1971. After the schoolhouse had closed for good, it was boarded up, a garage door was put in the north side and it was used as a warehouse for the school, storing books, extra desks, chairs, etc. Later, the historical society turned the location into what it is today - now known as the Lakes Historical Society museum.
Experiences:
This location has been investigated multiple times by USPR , and is one of our favorite locations to visit. Over the years the team has experienced many different unexplained paranormal activities. The team has seen shadows, shadow figures, flashes of light, a knock on a window, plenty of audible thumps, sounds of walking or furniture being pushed, as well as children's voices - all of this while no one was in the area. While a few investigators were standing at the top of the stairs conversing, they watched as the chair lift flipped up and down several times, although there was no power running to the chair at that time. On a separate night, several people watched as the hand of one of the mannequins turned slowly during a presentation. The team has also watched a ball of light appear and disappear into the upstairs classroom, and watched as a door slammed shut on its own. All of the evidence caught at the museum was audio, and sadly no video has been captured at this time.
